GitHub Copilot routing

Use GitHub Copilot with backup coding models

Keep your GitHub Copilot token on a router you control. Your coding tools use one address for Copilot and other models you approve. Hosted access uses a separate TEKIZ.AI key and the models available to your account.

Keep your Copilot token private

Configure your authorized GITHUB_COPILOT_TOKEN on a router you control. GitHub subscription terms still apply to Copilot use.

OpenAI-compatible setup

Use http://127.0.0.1:8790/v1 when your own router holds the Copilot token. The hosted API at https://api.tekiz.ai/v1 uses models available to your TEKIZ.AI account.

When a Copilot route reaches a limit

If a Copilot token or model route rate-limits, TEKIZ.AI can try another eligible route you authorized. Your coding tool keeps the same routing configuration.

Check models on your own router

Set GITHUB_COPILOT_TOKEN in the router host's private environment and start your configured local router. Run this check from a shell that can reach it. The hosted TEKIZ.AI API does not use your Copilot token.

export OPENAI_BASE_URL=http://127.0.0.1:8790/v1
export OPENAI_API_KEY=local-router

curl "$OPENAI_BASE_URL/models" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $OPENAI_API_KEY"

Use more than one token

Credential pools can distribute traffic across authorized tokens and fail over when one route is exhausted, revoked, rate-limited, or unhealthy.

Send files to services that accept them

Image, audio, video, and document inputs route only to capable models, so coding profiles do not send multimodal work to incompatible text-only routes.

See which route handled the request

Check the router response to see which model handled a request. Keep your Copilot token on the router host.

Why put TEKIZ.AI in front of Copilot?

Your own router gives approved coding tools one address for Copilot and any other models you configure. If an eligible backup is available, the router can try it when a route fails or reaches a limit. The Copilot token stays on your router host.

Next steps

Create an API key, copy the hosted quickstart, configure Codex, or estimate routing fit.

Stay within your approved services

If your company approves only GitHub Copilot, keep that boundary. TEKIZ.AI can reduce token burn while making better use of existing subscriptions and account billing.
